Interested in smaller engine design? Smaller engines can make more horsepower or torque if they are calibrated to run at higher peak cylinder pressure. Through increasing fuel rate and adjusting fuel timing, it’s easy to do in modern electrically controlled diesel engines to increase their power. This can make smaller engines feel and perform more like larger ones. Achieving this without increasing exhaust emissions is more challenging. Suffice to say High amounts of intake manifold air pressure boost (via turbocharging) is directionally correct for managing both higher power and lower emissions but results in high peak cylinder pressure and low in-cylinder particulate generation. And this, in turn, increases valve seat insert wear. We know that to combat this, you need premium VSI alloys. That’s where L.E.
